Botanical Casting with Clare

Clare Mahoney's ceramics reflect her love of the natural world, capturing its textures, patterns, and rhythms through the malleable medium of clay. Her pieces are made using porcelain, and traditional hand-building techniques.
The surface imagery is created through printmaking, drawing, and low-relief inlay. She draws inspiration from the beauty of human connections and the everyday world around her. Creating elements, multiples, and small sculptures that are then collaged together.
Creating Artwork with NatureBotanical Casting with Plaster and Cornish Stone. This workshop highlights our connection to the natural world, encouraging us to slow down and look closely at nature.
The intricate structure, texture, and beauty of foraged botany, the hedgerows we drive past every day.
The clay impression is used to form a mould. The mould is loaded with plaster and Cornish stone, creating a positive mirror image of the clay piece. The clay is removed, and the Botanical relief is revealed. Just like a Botanical monoprint, it’s simple and effective, bringing out all the unnoticed detail.

Aluminium Jewellery with Tanith

Tanith trained at the Birmingham School of Jewellery.
In 2012 she decided she would like a bit more colour in her jewellery and rediscovered the anodised aluminium technique that she learnt at college.
She has since been making jewellery from anodised aluminium which she dyes in a rainbow of colours using various methods such as dip-dyeing, stencilling, printing and drawing directly onto the aluminium. The colours are permanent and are locked into the surface of the metal by heating it. All shapes are cut out using hand tools such as a jeweller’s saw and a disc cutter which means that the techniques used are suitable for beginners.

Wet & Dry Felting with Jan

Making felt and creating felted art has gradually taken over Jan Mathews life!

It is very addictive and a most enjoyable art form. She uses wet and dry felting techniques to create 2D wool paintings and 3D work such as bowls, birdhouses, hats, scarves, etc.
Wet felting combines pure wools and other natural fibres such as silks, flax, hemp, cotton and some synthetic fibres to create wool paintings. Fibre, warm water and olive oil soap are used along with lots of elbow grease to combine the fibres to create felted fabric.
Dry felting is a method whereby a barbed felting needle is used to lock these fibres together and you use this to add detail to the wet felted pictures and to form and shape the 3D objects.
Fused Glass with Lisa

Lisa Cole has a long-standing background in graphics and illustration, as well as teaching and lecturing. She now works in the medium of glass.

She is inspired by the nature all around her and the breathtaking landscapes of the Wye Valley.
KILN FORMED GLASS
Hand-cut, and carefully positioned pieces of coloured glass are fused together in a kiln. Texture, colour and shade are added through the use of powdered and crushed glass. With the right heat treatment, metals can be encased within glass. These alloys oxidise in the heat and create effects that are often unpredictable.
Lisa's artwork undergoes multiple firings in the kiln. Each firing lasts more than 12 hours. Temperatures rise to in excess of 700C and then are held at an annealing temperature to strengthen the glass and make it durable.

You will be able to achieve on the workshop
-
a sunflower panel and brooch, OR
-
a wave with some dichroic pieces, OR
-
a panel with a flower pot, flowers, and bee design
